My sixth and latest album, Still Here, was released in 2022. At that time we were just emerging from the worst of the COVID pandemic, and the album was released in the spirit of healing, survivorship, and reconciliation. A substantial number of the songs had been written for weddings, and the overall mood was largely mellow and comforting.

Since the release of that album, I have been fortunate enough to have spent a lot of time in West Virginia, much of it camping and hiking. These experiences have led to the writing of a whole batch of new music, some of it highly energetic, some of it almost mystical, and some going in directions I’ve never explored!

It’s time to share this music with you. I have fourteen songs in mind, more tunes than any album since 2006’s As Promised. And in contrast to each of my previous albums, each of which collected songs written over a large span of time, each of these songs was written in the last few years.

I think there’s a new energy happening, and the title In Season came to me as a way of indicating that this music came together quickly and in many ways all of a piece.

I can’t wait to share it with you – but I need your help to produce it!

Another new thing for this album is that I plan to purchase some improvements to my home studio and do most of the recording at home. This will allow me to work on the album in comfort, and in the familiar environment you have probably seen in my weekly broadcasts. Moving forward, this will also permit me to record and release music in a much quicker fashion. (Don’t tell anyone, but I already have an idea for a follow-up album!)

My plan is also to begin recording immediately, and as I finish each song, I will share it with you immediately, long before the rest of the world hears it.

There are costs involved in buying equipment, as well as music distribution costs, pressing, and artwork. I’ve calculated that this will cost about $1200 . That’s a bit less than the last album – another benefit to recording at home!.
